1 Many bulls have compassed me;
2 Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
3 They gape upon me with their mouth,
4 As a ravening and a roaring lion.
5 I am poured out like water,
6 And all my bones are out of joint:
7 My heart is like wax;
8 It is melted within me.
9 My strength is dried up like a potsherd;

lxxbrent (lxxbrent) - Septuagint (Brenton 1851) eBible USFM

1 A Psalm of praise for the sons of Core on the second [day] of the week.
2 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.
3 The city of the great King is well planted [on] the mountains of Sion, with the joy of the whole earth, [on] the sides of the north.
4 God is known in her palaces, when he undertakes to help her.
5 For, behold, the kings of the earth were assembled, they came together.
6 They saw, and so they wondered: they were troubled, they were moved.
7 Trembling took hold on them: there were the pangs as of a woman in travail.
8 Thou wilt break the ships of Tharsis with a vehement wind.
9 As we have heard, so have we also seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God has founded it for ever. Pause.
10 We have thought of thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy people.
11 According to thy name, O God, so is also thy praise to the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
12 Let mount Sion rejoice, let the daughters of Judæa exult, because of thy judgments, O Lord.
13 Go round about Sion, and encompass her: tell ye her towers.
14 Mark ye well her strength, and observe her palaces; that ye may tell the next generation.
15 For this is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide for evermore.

1 Psalmus Cantici filiis Core secunda sabbati.
7 tremor apprehendit eos. Ibi dolores ut parturientis,
8 in spiritu vehementi conteres naves Tharsis.
9 Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri: Deus fundavit eam in æternum.
10 Suscepimus Deus misericordiam tuam, in medio templi tui.

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
