and brought to nought.
2
They are gone up to Bayith, and to Dibon, to the high places, to weep: Moab waileth over Nebo, and over Medeba; on all their heads is baldness, every beard is cut off.
3
In their streets they gird themselves with sackcloth; on their housetops, and in their broad places, every one waileth, weeping abundantly.
4
And Heshbon crieth out, and Elealeh; their voice is heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; his soul trembleth within him.
5
My heart crieth out for Moab; her nobles
6
flee unto Zoar, to Eglath-shelishi-yah: for by the ascent of Luhith with weeping they go up; for in the way of Horonaim they raise up a cry of destruction.
7
For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate; for the grass is withered away, the tender grass faileth, there is no green thing.
8
Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away over the brook of the willows.
9
For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the wailing thereof unto Eglaim, and the wailing thereof unto Beer-elim.
10
For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; for I will bring yet more upon Dimon, a lion upon them of Moab that escape, and upon the remnant of the land.
11
Send ye the lambs for the ruler of the land from Selah to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.
12
For it shall be that, as wandering birds, as a scattered nest, so shall the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon.
13
Give counsel, execute justice; make thy shade as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; betray not the fugitive.
14
Let mine outcasts dwell with thee; as for Moab, be thou a covert to him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nought, destruction ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.
15
And a throne shall be established in lovingkindness; and one shall sit thereon in truth, in the tent of David, judging, and seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.
16
We have heard of the pride of Moab,
17
that he is very proud; even of his arrogancy, and his pride, and his wrath; his boastings are nought.
18
Therefore shall Moab wail for Moab, every one shall wail: for the raisin-cakes of Kir-hareseth shall ye mourn, utterly stricken.
19
For the fields of Heshbon languish,
20
and the vine of Sibmah; the lords of the nations have broken down the choice branches thereof, which reached even unto Jazer, which wandered into the wilderness; its shoots were spread abroad, they passed over the sea.
21
Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for upon thy summer fruits and upon thy harvest the
22
battle shout is fallen.
23
And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the
24
vintage shout to cease.
25
Wherefore my heart soundeth like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-heres.

And I will incite the Egyptians against the Egyptians; and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, kingdom against kingdom.

And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it, and I will destroy the counsel thereof; and they shall seek unto the idols and unto the conjurers, and unto the necromancers, and unto the soothsayers.

And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord, and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

The meadows by the Nile, on the banks of the Nile, and everything sown by the Nile, shall be dried up, be driven away, and be no [more].

11
They are but fools, the princes of Zoan, the wise counsellors of Pharaoh: [their] counsel is become senseless. How say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
12
Where are they then, thy wise [men]? Let them now tell thee, and let them make known what Jehovah of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
13
The princes of Zoan are become foolish, the princes of Noph are deceived; and the corner-stones of its tribes have caused Egypt to err.
14
Jehovah hath mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst thereof; and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunkard staggereth in his vomit.
15
Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do.
16
In that day shall Egypt be like unto women; and it shall tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Jehovah of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
17
And the land of Judah shall be a dismay unto Egypt: every one that thinketh of it shall be afraid for himself, because of the counsel of Jehovah of hosts, which he hath purposed against it.
18
In that day shall there be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan, and swearing by Jehovah of hosts: one shall be called, The city of Heres.
19
In that day shall there be an altar to Jehovah in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to Jehovah:
20
and it shall be for a sign and for a witness to Jehovah of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry unto Jehovah because of the oppressors, and he will send them a saviour and defender, who shall deliver them.
21
And Jehovah shall be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall know Jehovah in that day, and shall serve with sacrifice and oblation; and they shall vow a vow unto Jehovah, and perform it.

1
The Vision of Egypt. Behold, the Lord sits on a swift cloud, and shall come to Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and their heart shall faint within them.
2
And the Egyptians shall be stirred up against the Egyptians: and a man shall fight against his brother, and a man against his neighbour, city against city, and law against law.
3
And the spirit of the Egyptians shall be troubled within them; and I will frustrate their counsel: and they shall enquire of their gods and their images, and them that speak out of the earth, and them that have in them a divining spirit.
4
And I will deliver Egypt into the hands of men, of cruel lords; and cruel kings shall rule over them: thus saith the Lord of hosts.
5
And the Egyptians shall drink the water that is by the sea, but the river shall fail, and be dried up.
6
And the streams shall fail, and the canals of the river; and every reservoir of water shall be dried up, in every marsh also of reed and papyrus.
7
And all the green herbage round about the river, and everything sown by the side of the river, shall be blasted with the wind and dried up.
8
And the fishermen shall groan, and all that cast a hook into the river shall groan; they also that cast nets, and the anglers shall mourn.
9
And shame shall come upon them that work fine flax, and them that make fine linen.
10
And they that work at them shall be in pain, and all that make beer shall be grieved, and be pained in their souls.
11
And the princes of Tanis shall be fools: [as for] the king's wise counsellors, their counsel shall be turned into folly: how will ye say to the king, We are sons of wise men, sons of ancient kings?
12
Where are now thy wise men? and let them declare to thee, and say, What has the Lord of hosts purposed upon Egypt?
13
The princes of Tanis have failed, and the princes of Memphis are lifted up [with pride], and they shall cause Egypt to wander by tribes.
14
For the Lord has prepared for them a spirit of error, and they have caused Egypt to err in all their works, as one staggers who is drunken and vomits also.
15
And there shall be no work to the Egyptians, which shall make head or tail, or beginning or end.
16
But in that day the Egyptians shall be as women, in fear and in trembling because of the hand of the Lord of hosts, which he shall bring upon them.
17
And the land of the Jews shall be for a terror to the Egyptians: whosoever shall name it to them, they shall fear, because of the counsel which the Lord of hosts has purposed concerning it.
18
In that day there shall be five cities in Egypt speaking the language of Chanaan, and swearing by the name of the Lord of hosts; one city shall be called the city of Asedec.
19
In that day there shall be an altar to the Lord in the land of the Egyptians, and a pillar to the Lord by its border.
20
And it shall be for a sign to the Lord for ever in the land of Egypt: for they shall presently cry to the Lord by reason of them that afflict them, and he shall send them a man who shall save them; he shall judge and save them.
21
And the Lord shall be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall know the Lord in that day; and they shall offer sacrifices, and shall vow vows to the Lord, and pay [them].
22
And the Lord shall smite the Egyptians with a stroke, and shall completely heal them: and they shall return to the Lord, and he shall hear them, and thoroughly heal them.
23
In that day there shall be a way from Egypt to the Assyrians, and the Assyrians shall enter into Egypt, and the Egyptians shall go to the Assyrians, and the Egyptians shall serve the Assyrians.
24
In that day shall Israel be third with the Egyptians and the Assyrians, blessed in the land which the Lord of hosts has blessed,
25
saying, Blessed be my people that is in Egypt, and that is among the Assyrians, and Israel mine inheritance.

11
Stulti principes Taneos, sapientes consiliarii Pharaonis dederunt consilium insipiens: quomodo dicetis Pharaoni: Filius sapientium ego, filius regum antiquorum?
12
Ubi nunc sunt sapientes tui? annuncient tibi, et indicent quid cogitaverit Dominus exercituum super Ægyptum.
13
16
In die illa erit Ægyptus quasi mulieres, et stupebunt, et timebunt a facie commotionis manus Domini exercituum. quam ipse movebit super eam.
17
Et erit Terra Iuda Ægypto in pavorem: omnis, qui illius fuerit recordatus, pavebit a facie consilii Domini exercituum, quod ipse cogitavit super eam.
18
In die illa erunt quinque civitates in Terra Ægypti, loquentes lingua Chanaan, et iurantes per Dominum exercituum: Civitas solis vocabitur una.
19
In die illa erit altare Domini in medio Terræ Ægypti, et titulus Domini iuxta terminum eius
20
23
In die illa erit via de Ægypto in Assyrios, et intrabit Assyrius Ægyptum, et Ægyptius in Assyrios, et servient Ægyptii Assur.
24
In die illa erit Israel tertius Ægyptio et Assyrio: benedictio in medio terræ,
25
cui benedixit Dominus exercituum, dicens: Benedictus populus meus Ægypti, et opus manuum mearum Assyrio: hereditas autem mea Israel.
