Of a truth I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath.
2
But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
3
the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful.
4
And that servant, who knew his lord’s will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many
5
stripes;
6
but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few
7
stripes. And to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom they commit much, of him will they ask the more.
8
I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what do I desire, if it is already kindled?
9
But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
10
Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
11
for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
12
They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.
13
And he said to the multitudes also, When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it cometh to pass.
14
And when

ye see a south wind blowing, ye say, There will be a scorching heat; and it cometh to pass.
16
Ye hypocrites, ye know how to interpret the face of the earth and the heaven; but how is it that ye know not how to interpret this time?
17
And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
18
For as thou art going with thine adversary before the magistrate, on the way give diligence to be quit of him; lest haply he drag thee unto the judge, and the judge shall deliver thee to the officer, and the officer shall cast thee into prison.
19
I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the very last mite.
20
Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilæans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
21
And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they have suffered these things?
22
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish.
23
Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem?
24
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
25
And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.
26
And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground?
27
And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
28
and if it bear fruit thenceforth,
29
well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.
30
And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day.
31
And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up.
32
And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
33
And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
34
And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath.
35
But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
36
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo,
37
these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?
38
And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
39
He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it?
40
It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof.
41
And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?
42
It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.
43
And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem.

And he spoke also a parable to them to the purport that they should always pray and not faint,
2
saying, There was a judge in a city, not fearingGod and not respecting man:
3
and there was a widow in that city, and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of mine adverse party.
4
And he would not for a time; but afterwards he said within himself, If even I fear notGod and respect not man,
5
at any rate because this widow annoys me I will avenge her, that she may not by perpetually coming completely harass me.
6
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.
7
And shall notGod at all avenge his elect, who cry to him day and night, and he bears long as to them?
8
I say unto you that he will avenge them speedily. But when the Son of man comes, shall he indeed find faith on the earth?
9
And he spoke also to some, who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and made nothing of all the rest [of men], this parable:
10
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer.
11
The Pharisee, standing, prayed thus to himself:God, I thank thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer.
12
I fast twice in the week, I tithe everything I gain.
13
And the tax-gatherer, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, OGod, have compassion on me, the sinner.
14
I say unto you, This [man] went down to his house justified rather than that [other]. For every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
15
And they brought to him also infants that he might touch them, but the disciples when they saw [it] rebuked them.
16
But Jesus calling them to [him] said, Suffer little children to come to me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom ofGod.
17
Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom ofGod as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
18
And a certain ruler asked him saying, Good teacher, having done what, shall I inherit eternal life?
19
But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one,God.
20
Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21
And he said, All these things have I kept from my youth.
22
And when Jesus had heard this, he said to him, One thing is lacking to thee yet: Sell all that thou hast and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in the heavens, and come, follow me.
23
But when he heard this he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
24
But when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, he said, How difficultly shall those who have riches enter into the kingdom ofGod;
25
for it is easier for a camel to enter through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom ofGod.
26
And those who heard it said, And who can be saved?
27
But he said, The things that are impossible with men are possible withGod.
28
And Peter said, Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee.
29
And he said to them, Verily I say to you, There is no one who has left home, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom ofGod's sake,
30
who shall not receive manifold more at this time, and in the coming age life eternal.
31
And he took the twelve to [him] and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written of the Son of man by the prophets shall be accomplished;
32
for he shall be delivered up to the nations, and shall be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon.
33
And when they have scourged [him] they will kill him; and on the third day he will rise again.
34
And they understood nothing of these things. And this word was hidden from them, and they did not know what was said.
35
And it came to pass when he came into the neighbourhood of Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging.
36
And when he heard the crowd passing, he inquired what this might be.
37
And they told him that Jesus the Nazaraean was passing by.
38
And he called out saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.
39
And those [who were] going before rebuked him that he might be silent; but he cried out so much the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.
40
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be led to him. And when he drew nigh he asked him [saying],
41
What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And he said, Lord, that I may see.
42
And Jesus said to him, See: thy faith has healed thee.
43
And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifyingGod. And all the people when they saw [it] gave praise toGod.

Duo homines ascenderunt in templum ut orarent: unus Pharisæus, et alter publicanus.

Pharisæus stans, hæc apud se orabat: Deus gratias ago tibi, quia non sum sicut ceteri hominum: raptores, iniusti, adulteri: velut etiam hic publicanus.

ieiuno bis in sabbato: decimas do omnium, quæ possideo.
13
Et publicanus a longe stans, nolebat nec oculos ad cælum levare: sed percutiebat pectus suum, dicens: Deus propitius esto mihi peccatori.

Dico vobis, descendit hic iustificatus in domum suam ab illo, quia omnis, qui se exaltat, humiliabitur: et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur.

Afferebant autem ad illum et infantes, ut eos tangeret. Quod cum viderent discipuli, increpabant illos.

Iesus autem convocans illos, dixit: Sinite pueros venire ad me, et nolite vetare eos. talium est enim regnum Dei.

Amen dico vobis: Quicumque non acceperit regnum Dei sicut puer, non intrabit in illud.

Et interrogavit eum quidam princeps, dicens: Magister bone, quid faciens vitam æternam possidebo?

Dixit autem ei Iesus: Quid me dicis bonum? nemo bonus nisi solus Deus.

Mandata nosti: Non occides: Non mœchaberis: Non furtum facies: Non falsum testimonium dices: Honora patrem tuum, et matrem.

Qui ait: Hæc omnia custodivi a iuventute mea.

Quo audito, Iesus ait ei: Adhuc unum tibi deest: omnia quæcumque habes vende, et da pauperibus, et habebis thesaurum in cælo: et veni, sequere me.

His ille auditis, contristatus est: quia dives erat valde.

Videns autem Iesus illum tristem factum, dixit: Quam difficile, qui pecunias habent, in regnum Dei intrabunt.

Facilius est enim camelum per foramen acus transire, quam divitem intrare in regnum Dei.

Et dixerunt qui audiebant: Et quis potest salvus fieri?
27
Ait illis: Quæ impossibilia sunt apud homines, possibilia sunt apud Deum.

Ait autem Petrus: Ecce nos dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te.

Qui dixit eis: Amen dico vobis, nemo est, qui reliquit domum, aut parentes, aut fratres, aut uxorem, aut filios propter regnum Dei,

et non recipiat multo plura in hoc tempore, et in sæculo venturo vitam æternam.

Assumpsit autem Iesus duodecim, et ait illis: Ecce ascendimus Ierosolymam, et consummabuntur omnia, quæ scripta sunt per prophetas de Filio hominis.

tradetur enim Gentibus, et illudetur, et flagellabitur, et conspuetur:

et postquam flagellaverint, occident eum, et tertia die resurget.

Et ipsi nihil horum intellexerunt, et erat verbum istud absconditum ab eis, et non intelligebant quæ dicebantur.

Factum est autem, cum appropinquaret Iericho, cæcus quidam sedebat secus viam, mendicans.

Et cum audiret turbam prætereuntem, interrogabat quid hoc esset.

Stans autem Iesus iussit illum adduci ad se. Et cum appropinquasset, interrogavit illum,

dicens: Quid tibi vis faciam? At ille dixit: Domine ut videam.

Et Iesus dixit illi: Respice, fides tua te salvum fecit.
43
Et confestim vidit, et sequebatur illum magnificans Deum. Et omnis plebs ut vidit, dedit laudem Deo.

He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray and not give up,

saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God and didn’t respect man.
3
A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’
4
He wouldn’t for a while; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,
5
yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’”

The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.
7
Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?
8
I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
9
He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others:
10
“Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.
11
The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men: extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12
I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’
13
But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
14
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
15
They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16
Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.
17
Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”
18
A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
19
Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one: God.
20
You know the commandments: ‘Don’t commit adultery,’ ‘Don’t murder,’ ‘Don’t steal,’ ‘Don’t give false testimony,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”
21
He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.”
22
When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
23
But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.
24
Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!
25
For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.”
26
Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”
27
But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.”

They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said.
35
As he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging.
36
Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.
37
They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
38
He cried out, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”
39
Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”
40
Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him,
41
“What do you want me to do?” He said, “Lord, that I may see again.”
42
Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”
43
Immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.

ειπαν δε οι ακουσαντες και τις δυναται σωθηναι

and shall not God execute the justice to His choice ones, who are crying unto Him day and night--bearing long in regard to them?

I say to you, that He will execute the justice to them quickly; but the Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?'

And he spake also unto certain who have been trusting in themselves that they were righteous, and have been despising the rest, this simile:
10
