1
and shalt return unto Jehovah thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul;
2
that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee.
3
If
4
any of thine outcasts be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:
5
and Jehovah thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
6
And Jehovah thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
7
And Jehovah thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, that persecuted thee.
8
And thou shalt return and obey the voice of Jehovah, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
9
And Jehovah thy God will make thee plenteous in all the work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good: for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;
10
if thou shalt obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if thou turn unto Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.
11
For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off.
12
It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?
13
Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?
14
But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16
in that I command thee this day to love Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that thou mayest live and multiply, and that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it.
17
But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18
I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days in the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it.
19
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed;
20
to love Jehovah thy God, to obey his voice, and to cleave unto him; for he is thy life, and the length of thy days; that thou mayest dwell in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
21
And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.
22
And he said unto them, I am a hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: and Jehovah hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
23
Jehovah thy God, he will go over before thee; he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt dispossess them:
24
and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as Jehovah hath spoken.
25
And Jehovah will do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and unto their land; whom he destroyed.
26
And Jehovah will deliver them up before you, and ye shall do unto them according unto all the commandment which I have commanded you.
27
Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be affrighted at them: for Jehovah thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
28
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage: for thou shalt go with this people into the land which Jehovah hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
29
And Jehovah, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
30
And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and unto all the elders of Israel.
31
And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of
32
every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,
33
when all Israel is come to appear before Jehovah thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
34
Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and thy sojourner that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear Jehovah your God, and observe to do all the words of this law;
35
and that their children, who have not known, may hear, and learn to fear Jehovah your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.
36
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.
37
And Jehovah appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent.
38
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
39
Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?
40
And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
41
Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
42
For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxed fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.
43
And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they frame this day, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.
44
So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.
45
And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
46
And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
47
that Moses commanded the Levites, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying,
48
Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
49
For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against Jehovah; and how much more after my death?
50
Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.
51
For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.
52
And Moses spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.
darby (darby) - eBible.org Darby 1890 plaintext
1
Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth!
2
My doctrine shall drop as rain, My speech flow down as dew, As small rain upon the tender herb, And as showers on the grass.
3
For the name of Jehovah will I proclaim: Ascribe greatness unto ourGod!
4
[He is] the Rock, his work is perfect, For all his ways are righteousness; AGod of faithfulness without deceit, Just and right is he.
5
They have dealt corruptly with him; Not his children's is their spot: — A crooked and perverted generation!
6
Do ye thus requite Jehovah, Foolish and unwise people? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? Hath he not made thee and established thee?
7
Remember the days of old, Consider the years of generation to generation; Ask thy father, and he will shew thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.
8
When the Most High assigned to the nations their inheritance, When he separated the sons of Adam, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel.
9
For Jehovah's portion is his people; Jacob the lot of his inheritance.
10
He found him in a desert land, And in the waste, howling wilderness; He compassed him about, he watched over him, He preserved him as the apple of his eye.
11
As the eagle stirreth up its nest, Hovereth over its young, Spreadeth out its wings, Taketh them, beareth them on its feathers,
12
So Jehovah alone did lead him, And no strangegod [was] with him.
13
He made him ride on the high places of the earth, And he ate the produce of the field; And he made him suck honey out of the crag, And oil out of the flinty rock;
14
Cream of kine, and milk of sheep, With the fat of lambs, And rams of the breed of Bashan, and he-goats, With the fat of kidneys of wheat; And thou didst drink pure wine, the blood of the grape.
15
Then Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked — Thou art waxen fat, Thou art grown thick, And thou art covered with fatness; — He gave upGod who made him, And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
16
They moved him to jealousy with strangegods, With abominations did they provoke him to anger.
17
They sacrificed unto demons who are notGod; Togods whom they knew not, To new ones, who came newly up, Whom your fathers revered not.
18
Of the Rock that begot thee wast thou unmindful, And thou hast forgottenGod who brought thee forth.
19
And Jehovah saw it, and despised them, Because of the provoking of his sons and of his daughters.
20
And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be; For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness.
21
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is noGod; They have exasperated me with their vanities; And I will move them to jealousy with that which is not a people; With a foolish nation will I provoke them to anger.
22
For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And it shall burn into the lowest Sheol, And shall consume the earth and its produce, And set fire to the foundations of the mountains.
23
I will heap mischiefs upon them; Mine arrows will I spend against them.
24
They shall be consumed with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, And with poisonous pestilence; And the teeth of beasts will I send against them, With the poison of what crawleth in the dust.
25
From without shall the sword bereave them, and in the chambers, terror — Both the young man and the virgin, The suckling with the man of gray hairs.
26
I would say, I will scatter, I will make the remembrance of them to cease from among men,
27
If I did not fear provocation from the enemy, Lest their adversaries should misunderstand it, Lest they should say, Our hand is high, and Jehovah has not done all this.
28
For they are a nation void of counsel, And understanding is not in them.
29
Oh that they had been wise! they would have understood this, They would have considered their latter end!
30
How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Were it not that their Rock had sold them, And Jehovah had delivered them up?
31
For their rock is not as our Rock: Let our enemies themselves be judges.
32
For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, And of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of poison, Bitter are their clusters;
33
Their wine is the poison of dragons, And the cruel venom of vipers.
34
Is not this hidden with me, Sealed up among my treasures?
35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense, For the time when their foot shall slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things that shall come upon them make haste.
36
For Jehovah will judge his people, And shall repent in favour of his servants; When he seeth that power is gone, And there is none shut up or left.
37
And he shall say, Where are theirgods, Their rock in whom they trusted,
38
Who ate the fat of their sacrifices, [And] drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, That there may be a protection over you.
39
See now that I, I am HE, And there is nogod with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal, And there is none that delivereth out of my hand,
40
For I lift up my hand to the heavens, and say, I live for ever!
41
If I have sharpened my gleaming sword, And my hand take hold of judgment, I will render vengeance to mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate me.
42
Mine arrows will I make drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; [I will make them drunk] with the blood of the slain and of the captives, With the head of the princes of the enemy.
43
Shout for joy, ye nations, with his people, For he avengeth the blood of his servants, And rendereth vengeance to his enemies, And maketh atonement for his land, for his people.
44
And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea the son of Nun.
45
And when Moses had ended speaking all these words to all Israel,
46
he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words that I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to take heed to do, all the words of this law.
47
For it is no vain word for you, but it is your life, and through this word ye shall prolong your days on the land whereunto ye pass over the Jordan to possess it.
48
And Jehovah spoke to Moses that same day, saying,
49
Go up into this mountain Abarim, mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, which is opposite Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession,
50
and die on the mountain whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died on mount Hor, and was gathered unto his peoples;
51
because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye hallowed me not in the midst of the children of Israel.
52
For thou shalt see the land before [thee]; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.

1
Attend, O heaven, and I will speak; and let the earth hear the words out of my mouth.
2
Let my speech be looked for as the rain, and my words come down as dew, as the shower upon the herbage, and as snow upon the grass.
3
For I have called on the name of the Lord: assign ye greatness to our God.
4
[As for] God, his works [are] true, and all his ways [are] judgment: God [is] faithful, and there is no unrighteousness [in him]; just and holy [is] the Lord.
5
They have sinned, not [pleasing] him; spotted children, a froward and perverse generation.
6
Do ye thus recompense the Lord? [is the] people thus foolish and unwise? did not he himself thy father purchase thee, and make thee, and form thee?
7
Remember the days of old, consider the years for past ages: ask thy father, and he shall relate to thee, thine elders, and they shall tell thee.
8
When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the nations according to the number of the angels of God.
9
And his people Jacob became the portion of the Lord, Israel was the line of his inheritance.
10
He maintained him in the wilderness, in burning thirst and a dry land: he led him about and instructed him, and kept him as the apple of an eye.
11
As an eagle would watch over his brood, and yearns over his young, receives them having spread his wings, and takes them up on his back:
12
the Lord alone led them, there was no strange god with them.
13
He brought them up on the strength of the land; he fed them with the fruits of the fields; they sucked honey out of the rock, and oil out of the solid rock.
14
Butter of cows, and milk of sheep, with the fat of lambs and rams, of calves and kids, with fat of kidneys of wheat; and he drank wine, the blood of the grape.
15
So Jacob ate and was filled, and the beloved one kicked; he grew fat, he became thick and broad: then he forsook the God that made him, and departed from God his Saviour.
16
They provoked me to anger with strange gods; with their abominations they bitterly angered me.
17
They sacrificed to devils, and not to God; to gods whom they knew not: new and fresh [gods] came in, whom their fathers knew not.
18
Thou hast forsaken God that begot thee, and forgotten God who feeds thee.
19
And the Lord saw, and was jealous; and was provoked by the anger of his sons and daughters,
20
and said, I will turn away my face from them, and will show what shall happen to them in the last days; for it is a perverse generation, sons in whom is no faith.
21
They have provoked me to jealousy with [that which is] not God, they have exasperated me with their idols; and I will provoke them to jealousy with them that are no nation, I will anger them with a nation void of understanding.
22
For a fire has been kindled out of my wrath, it shall burn to hell below; it shall devour the land, and the fruits of it; it shall set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
23
I will gather evils upon them, and will fight with my weapons against them.
24
[They shall be] consumed with hunger and the devouring of birds, and there shall be irremediable destruction: I will send forth against them the teeth of wild beasts, with the rage of [serpents] creeping on the ground.
25
Without, the sword shall bereave them of children, and terror [shall issue] out of the secret chambers; the young man shall perish with the virgin, the suckling with him who has grown old.
26
I said, I will scatter them, and I will cause their memorial to cease from among men.
27
Were it not for the wrath of the enemy, lest they should live long, lest their enemies should combine against them; lest they should say, Our own high arm, and not the Lord, has done all these things.
28
It is a nation that has lost counsel, neither is there understanding in them.
29
They had not sense to understand: let them reserve these things against the time to come.
30
How should one pursue a thousand, and two rout tens of thousands, if God had not sold them, and the Lord delivered them up?
31
For their gods are not as our God, but our enemies [are] void of understanding.
32
For their vine [is] of the vine of Sodom, and their vine-branch of Gomorrha: their grape [is] a grape of gall, their cluster [is] one of bitterness.
33
Their wine [is] the rage of serpents, and the incurable rage of asps.
34
Lo! are not these things stored up by me, and sealed among my treasures?
35
In the day of vengeance I will recompense, whensoever their foot shall be tripped up; for the day of their destruction [is] near to them, and the judgments at hand are close upon you.
36
For the Lord shall judge his people, and shall be comforted over his servants; for he saw that they were utterly weakened, and failed in the hostile invasion, and were become feeble:
37
and the Lord said, Where are their gods on whom they trusted?
38
the fat of whose sacrifices ye ate, and ye drank the wine of their drink-offerings? let them arise and help you, and be your protectors.
39
Behold, behold that I am [he], and there is no god beside me: I kill, and I will make to live: I will smite, and I will heal; and there is none who shall deliver out of my hands.
40
For I will lift up my hand to heaven, and swear by my right hand, and I will say, I live for ever.
41
For I will sharpen my sword like lightning, and my hand shall take hold of judgment; and I will render judgment to my enemies, and will recompense them that hate me.
42
I will make my weapons drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, [it shall glut itself] with the blood of the wounded, and from the captivity of the heads of [their] enemies that rule over them.
43
Rejoice, ye heavens, with him, and let all the angels of God worship him; rejoice ye Gentiles, with his people, and let all the sons of God strengthen themselves in him; for he will avenge the blood of his sons, and he will render vengeance, and recompense justice to his enemies, and will reward them that hate him; and the Lord shall purge the land of his people.
44
And Moses wrote this song in that day, and taught it to the children of Israel; and Moses went in and spoke all the words of this law in the ears of the people, he and Joshua the [son] of Naue.
45
And Moses finished speaking to all Israel.
46
And he said to them, Take heed with your heart to all these words, which I testify to you this day, which ye shall command your sons, to observe and do all the words of this law.
47
For this [is] no vain word to you; for it [is] your life, and because of this word ye shall live long upon the land, into which ye go over Jordan to inherit it.
48
And the Lord spoke to Moses in this day, saying,
49
Go up to the mount Abarim, this mountain Nabau which is in the land of Moab over against Jericho, and behold the land of Chanaan, which I give to the sons of Israel:
50
and die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be added to thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Or, and was added to his people.
51
Because ye disobeyed my word among the children of Israel, at the waters of strife of Cades in the wilderness of Sin; because ye sanctified me not among the sons of Israel.
52
Thou shalt see the land before [thee], but thou shalt not enter into it.

Quia nomen Domini invocabo: date magnificentiam Deo nostro.
4
7
Memento dierum antiquorum, cogita generationes singulas: interroga patrem tuum, et annunciabit tibi: maiores tuos, et dicent tibi.
8
Quando dividebat Altissimus gentes: quando separabat filios Adam, constituit terminos populorum iuxta numerum filiorum Israel.
9
10
Invenit eum in terra deserta, in loco horroris, et vastæ solitudinis: circumduxit eum, et docuit: et custodivit quasi pupillam oculi sui.
11

41
Si acuero ut fulgur gladium meum, et arripuerit iudicium manus mea: reddam ultionem hostibus meis, et his qui oderunt me retribuam.
42
45
Complevitque omnes sermones istos, loquens ad universum Israel.
46
50
Quem conscendens iungeris populis tuis, sicut mortuus est Aaron frater tuus in monte Hor, et appositus populis suis:

1
Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak. Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2
My doctrine will drop as the rain. My speech will condense as the dew, as the misty rain on the tender grass, as the showers on the herb.
3
For I will proclaim the LORD’s name. Ascribe greatness to our God!
4
The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he.
5
They have dealt corruptly with him. They are not his children, because of their defect. They are a perverse and crooked generation.
6
Is this the way you repay the LORD, foolish and unwise people? Isn’t he your father who has bought you? He has made you and established you.
7
Remember the days of old. Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.
8
When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the children of men, he set the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel.
9
For the LORD’s portion is his people. Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
10
He found him in a desert land, in the waste howling wilderness. He surrounded him. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye.
11
As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, he spread abroad his wings, he took them, he bore them on his feathers.
12
The LORD alone led him. There was no foreign god with him.
13
He made him ride on the high places of the earth. He ate the increase of the field. He caused him to suck honey out of the rock, oil out of the flinty rock;
14
butter from the herd, and milk from the flock, with fat of lambs, rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the finest of the wheat. From the blood of the grape, you drank wine.
15
But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked. You have grown fat. You have grown thick. You have become sleek. Then he abandoned God who made him, and rejected the Rock of his salvation.
16
They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. They provoked him to anger with abominations.
17
They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they didn’t know, to new gods that came up recently, which your fathers didn’t dread.
18
Of the Rock who became your father, you are unmindful, and have forgotten God who gave you birth.
19
The LORD saw and abhorred, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
20
He said, “I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.
21
They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities. I will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
22
For a fire is kindled in my anger, that burns to the lowest Sheol, devours the earth with its increase, and sets the foundations of the mountains on fire.
23
“I will heap evils on them. I will spend my arrows on them.
24
They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat and bitter destruction. I will send the teeth of animals on them, with the venom of vipers that glide in the dust.
25
Outside the sword will bereave, and in the rooms, terror on both young man and virgin, the nursing infant with the gray-haired man.
26
I said that I would scatter them afar. I would make their memory to cease from among men;
27
were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge wrongly, lest they should say, ‘Our hand is exalted; the LORD has not done all this.’”
28
For they are a nation void of counsel. There is no understanding in them.
29
Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
30
How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had delivered them up?
31
For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves concede.
32
For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, of the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison grapes. Their clusters are bitter.
33
Their wine is the poison of serpents, the cruel venom of asps.
34
“Isn’t this laid up in store with me, sealed up among my treasures?
35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense, at the time when their foot slides, for the day of their calamity is at hand. Their doom rushes at them.”
36
For the LORD will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, that there is no one remaining, shut up or left at large.
37
He will say, “Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge,
38
which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you! Let them be your protection.
39
“See now that I myself am he. There is no god with me. I kill and I make alive. I wound and I heal. There is no one who can deliver out of my hand.
40
For I lift up my hand to heaven and declare, as I live forever,
41
if I sharpen my glittering sword, my hand grasps it in judgment; I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will repay those who hate me.
42
I will make my arrows drunk with blood. My sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the head of the leaders of the enemy.”
43
Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries, and will make atonement for his land and for his people.
44
Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Joshua the son of Nun.
45
Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel.
46
He said to them, “Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you today, which you shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
47
For it is no vain thing for you, because it is your life, and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Jordan to possess it.”
48
The LORD spoke to Moses that same day, saying,
49
“Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is across from Jericho; and see the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession.
50
Die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people;
51
because you trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you didn’t uphold my holiness among the children of Israel.
52
For you shall see the land from a distance; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Israel.”

`Give ear, O heavens, and I speak; And thou dost hear, O earth, sayings of my mouth!
2
Drop as rain doth My doctrine; Flow as dew doth My sayings; As storms on the tender grass, And as showers on the herb,
3
For the Name of Jehovah I proclaim, Ascribe ye greatness to our God!
4
The Rock! --perfect <FI>is<Fi> His work, For all His ways <FI>are<Fi> just; God of stedfastness, and without iniquity: Righteous and upright <FI>is<Fi> He.
5
It hath done corruptly to Him; Their blemish is not His sons', A generation perverse and crooked!
6
To Jehovah do ye act thus, O people foolish and not wise? Is not He thy father--thy possessor? He made thee, and doth establish thee.
7
Remember days of old--Understand the years of many generations--Ask thy father, and he doth tell thee; Thine elders, and they say to thee:
8
In the Most High causing nations to inherit, In His separating sons of Adam--He setteth up the borders of the peoples By the number of the sons of Israel.
9
For Jehovah's portion <FI>is<Fi> His people, Jacob <FI>is<Fi> the line of His inheritance.
10
He findeth him in a land--a desert, And in a void--a howling wilderness, He turneth him round--He causeth him to understand--He keepeth him as the apple of His eye.
11
As an eagle waketh up its nest, Over its young ones fluttereth, Spreadeth its wings--taketh them, Beareth them on its pinions; --
12
Jehovah alone doth lead him, And there is no strange god with him.
13
He maketh him ride on high places of earth, And he eateth increase of the fields, And He maketh him suck honey from a rock, And oil out of the flint of a rock;
14
Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, and rams, sons of Bashan, And he-goats, with fat of kidneys of wheat; And of the blood of the grape thou dost drink wine!
15
And Jeshurun waxeth fat, and doth kick: Thou hast been fat--thou hast been thick, Thou hast been covered. And he leaveth God who made him, And dishonoureth the Rock of his salvation.
16
They make Him zealous with strangers, With abominations they make Him angry.
17
They sacrifice to demons--no god! Gods they have not known--New ones--from the vicinity they came; Not feared them have your fathers!
18
The Rock that begat thee thou forgettest, And neglectest God who formeth thee.
19
And Jehovah seeth and despiseth--For the provocation of His sons and His daughters.
20
And He saith: I hide My face from them, I see what <FI>is<Fi> their latter end; For a froward generation <FI>are<Fi> they, Sons in whom is no stedfastness.
21
They have made Me zealous by `no-god,' They made Me angry by their vanities; And I make them zealous by `no-people,' By a foolish nation I make them angry.
22
For a fire hath been kindled in Mine anger, And it burneth unto Sheol--the lowest, And consumeth earth and its increase, And setteth on fire foundations of mountains.
23
I gather upon them evils, Mine arrows I consume upon them.
24
Exhausted by famine, And consumed by heat, and bitter destruction. And the teeth of beasts I send upon them, With poison of fearful things of the dust.
25
Without bereave doth the sword, And at the inner-chambers--fear, Both youth and virgin, Suckling with man of grey hair.
26
I have said: I blow them away, I cause their remembrance to cease from man;
27
If not--the anger of an enemy I fear, Lest their adversaries know--Lest they say, Our hand is high, And Jehovah hath not wrought all this.
28
For a nation lost to counsels <FI>are<Fi> they, And there is no understanding in them.
29
If they were wise--They deal wisely <FI>with<Fi> this; They attend to their latter end:
30
How doth one pursue a thousand, And two cause a myriad to flee! If not--that their rock hath sold them, And Jehovah hath shut them up?
31
For not as our Rock <FI>is<Fi> their rock, (And our enemies <FI>are<Fi> judges!)
32
For of the vine of Sodom their vine <FI>is<Fi> , And of the fields of Gomorrah; Their grapes <FI>are<Fi> grapes of gall--They have bitter clusters;
33
The poison of dragons <FI>is<Fi> their wine And the fierce venom of asps.
34
Is it not laid up with Me? Sealed among My treasures?
35
Mine <FI>are<Fi> vengeance and recompense, At the due time--doth their foot slide; For near is a day of their calamity, And haste do things prepared for them.
36
For Jehovah doth judge His people, And for His servants doth repent Himself. For He seeth--the going away of power, And none is restrained and left.
37
And He hath said, Where <FI>are<Fi> their gods--The rock in which they trusted;
38
Which the fat of their sacrifices do eat, They drink the wine of their libation! Let them arise and help you, Let it be for you a hiding-place!
39
See ye, now, that I--I <FI>am<Fi> He, And there is no god with Me: I put to death, and I keep alive; I have smitten, and I heal; And there is not from My hand a deliverer,
40
For I lift up unto the heavens My hand, And have said, I live--to the age!
41
If I have sharpened the brightness of My sword, And My hand doth lay hold on judgment, I turn back vengeance to Mine adversaries, And to those hating Me--I repay!
42
I make drunk Mine arrows with blood, And My sword devoureth flesh, From the blood of the pierced and captive, From the head of the freemen of the enemy.
43
Sing ye nations--<FI> with<Fi> his people, For the blood of His servants He avengeth, And vengeance He turneth back on His adversaries, And hath pardoned His land--His people.'
44
And Moses cometh and speaketh all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea son of Nun;
45
and Moses finisheth to speak all these words unto all Israel,
46
and saith unto them, `Set your heart to all the words which I am testifying against you to-day, that ye command your sons to observe to do all the words of this law,
47
for it <FI>is<Fi> not a vain thing for you, for it <FI>is<Fi> your life, and by this thing ye prolong days on the ground whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it.'
48
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in this self-same day, saying,
49
`Go up unto this mount Abarim, mount Nebo, which <FI>is<Fi> in the land of Moab, which <FI>is<Fi> on the front of Jericho, and see the land of Canaan which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession;
50
and die in the mount whither thou art going up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother hath died in the mount Hor, and is gathered unto his people:
51
`Because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribath-Kadesh, the wilderness of Zin--because ye sanctified Me not in the midst of the sons of Israel;
52
but over-against thou seest the land, and thither thou dost not go in, unto the land which I am giving to the sons of Israel.'
